New Podcast: listen to the full interview now!
Mem//brane is a heavy wall of sound. The kit, bass, and guitar unify as one, certain to destroy anything in its path. Fueled by socio-political lyrics, this band’s energy borders on ferocity.
From a Conversation with Chad
“Especially here in Bellingham, there is a universally supportive community. You don't have to be polished and pro and the best. You will still get that affirmation as long as you are genuine. However much value you are going to put on skill, it comes with time. It’s one of those things. As long as you have passion and you’re going for it, the affirmation will be there.”

Fun Facts with Paige
NO THING
“My intention was that I want to write something catchy. I listened to a bunch of other songs by artists I really like. Dear Prudence by the Beatles is one that came up. I was like, ‘Oh, there’s this little section that I like. Can I take this cord progress and apply it to a new song?’ That’s where the progression of this song came from.”
KISS QUICK
“I picked up my ukulele and it just spilled out. It was from a place of being so in love with where I had landed. I had flirted with Bellingham for a very long time. I came here after graduating high school, moved to New York, came back, moved to Denver, came back, then I moved to Boston. This song is when I knew I could commit to Bellingham.”
ROSES
“This song is about experiencing a new city. While it is through the lens of a love song, it’s actually about feeling reinvigorated by somewhere new.”
ASHES
“I write from a place where I want to believe something good is coming. So I write in detail those things that I want. I don’t necessarily write from a place that I have figured it out, but a place of like ‘this is how it’ll feel when I figure it out’. You can’t manifest without little details.”

AB: How has the oyster become an iconic insignia of yours?
CJ: It started about two years ago. I did one custom request for an oyster and then I went to Miami to do a guest spot. A friend of mine there wanted one. Of course, I had to make it different than the one I already had done! I posted the second one on Instagram with a bunch of stupid emojis, and said “Hit me up for a custom oyster”…fully kidding. But no one knew I was kidding! I had a lot of people hit me up. Then, the oyster cult was born.
AB: Being that you have designed over 100 different unique oyster tattoos, how has the crustacean’s design evolved?
CJ: Well at first, I just used the same outline shape. And then, I filled it in differently every time. After about maybe ten of those, I decided it needed to be more unique - so the outer shape changed too. Although I’ve done a few with color, most have been black and gray. Some just outline and some with shading. Then, I noticed a lot of people were getting the oysters because of their vulva-ness. So, I started drawing some that were really ‘vulva-ey’ with a ‘pearl’ in the middle. So I’d say there’s two main types now: the classic shape and the vulva shape. Most people will specify which they are interested in and then I’ll offer like three different designs to choose from at the appointment.
